Google Ukrainian Users Expanded Security Protections Cybersecurity

Recently, Google revealed that it would increase the security measures of every Ukrainian user and website to help get them protected against malicious entities. The actions of other security groups have prompted Google to do the same course of action to help everyone against cybercriminals.

According to a representative, the tech company added numerous protection features such as SOS alerts on their ‘Search’ tool, automated detection and blocking of unwanted activities, and Gmail notifications of state-sponsored attack warnings.

Google security team also added the expansion of its Advanced Protection, increased authentication challenges, and improved their Project Shield programs.

Aside from Google, tech companies like Meta have joined the cause to aid affected Ukrainian individuals.

Technology firms, such as Meta and Google, also acted in the past days to disrupt the dissemination of fake information in the Ukrainian region. The Meta successfully took down an account that targeted high-ranking Ukrainian officials with phishing campaign attempts.

Google has also cleverly deactivated several live Google Maps features inside Ukraine. They disabled these tools to prevent public access to population densities within the area. Therefore, Russian invaders will not have easy access to such sites.

The search engine provider also issued an SOS alert to guide users to UN resources for asylum seekers and refugees searching for evacuations or safehouse instructions. They had also expanded their security protections after their threat analysis group (Google TAG) reported a surge of focus from threat actors on Ukrainian entities. The company obstructed attempted attacks of threat actors without compromising user accounts due to this attack.

Furthermore, the company also upgraded the frequency of authentication challenges for Ukrainian individuals and relied on its APP to protect hundreds of accounts in the region.

Google has also deployed a campaign called “Project Shield” to help protect more than a hundred websites owned by human rights groups, news publications, the political sector, and other groups that Russian threat actors with DDoS campaigns target.

After Google had announced their expanded security protocols, Apple reported that its company had stopped all sales of their products and technology in Russian stores. And as soon as the Prime Minister of Ukraine pleaded with them to shut down, the apps tore up and stopped all Russian sales.
