High-end Car Rental Sixt Germany Shut Down Cyberattack System Disruption

A malicious threat attack has struck a big-time car rental company called Sixt. Based on reports, the non-essential systems related to the company were temporarily shut down by its operators to avoid getting infected by the breach.

The Germany-based car rental firm rents automobiles from more than 2,000 locations in roughly 100 countries worldwide. In the latter part of April, the organisation temporarily shut down several aspects of its IT infrastructure to avoid damages from a cyberattack. Moreover, the essential systems were left functional by its team and remained accessible for their clients.

Reports indicated that the websites and mobile apps were the only remaining systems for the company to accommodate their customers.

According to an announcement by the car rental firm, they expect that the cyberattacks have gained information from their database.

The Sixt organisation announced that disruptions for employees and customers are inevitable since the threat actors operating the malicious act may get their hands on numerous information.

The firm claims to have mitigated the attack’s impact and expected minimal effects. A spokesperson also stated that they had not hindered their customer transactions despite the current episodes. Still, they should expect that there will be temporary disruptions in selected customer care centres and branches.

According to a German media provider, Sixt completed car bookings with manual transactions after the cyberattack. Hence, it is presumed that the attack will not affect the customers since it is all physically processed.

However, few non-essential systems have been inaccessible, resulting in customers who will be replied by an automated message that will notify them of technical difficulty.

As of now, there are no added details regarding the recent attack. Sixt revealed that investigations had been deployed by them but did not share information on the method of the attack. The organisation then called for their customer’s patience as they traverse this issue.

Today, no known ransomware gang has yet to claim the attack. But the probability of being ransomware is high.
