Anonymous Take Down System Disruption Payment System Qatar Iran Hacktivist Banking

Our dark web researchers have recently discovered a new campaign performed by the Anonymous hacktivist. The group had recently taken down a payment system giant in Qatar, disrupting people’s regular payment transactions.

Anonymous has been known for backing Ukraine against Russia and its supporting entities, specifically with the ongoing war between the two countries.

According to our observations, this attack on Qatar’s payment system firm was triggered by the Anonymous group’s warning on organisations to ban Iran from the upcoming FIFA World Cup, as it supplied deadly drones and missiles to terrorise Ukraine.

In a tweet, the hacktivist group said that FIFA must remove Iran from the World Cup due to the country’s provisioning of kamikaze drones and supporting Russia’s Putin in the current geopolitical war against Ukraine.

Anonymous might have begun attacking Qatar by taking down its payment system following an upcoming FIFA match in the country in November.

Anonymous encouraged people to join the pressure on FIFA to ban Iran’s World Cup team from a game in Qatar in November. The group stated that if the Iranian team was not expelled from the World Cup, they would begin attacks to send their message.

Thus, the recent disruption of the operations in a well-known payment system in Qatar implies that the hacktivist group has begun its movement. Anonymous also announced taking the Qatar government’s communications office offline, stating that there would be more incoming targets.

The affected country has received warnings from Anonymous, demanding to replace the Islamic Regime team with Ukraine; otherwise, Qatar should expect more from them.

In related news, our team also discovered that some threat actors had targeted Qatar’s banking and finance sector, including those that go by the names of SM1984 – D̸a̴r̷k̶L̴u̵l̶z̶ – K̶i̷r̵a̷S̷e̷c̶, @laurenboebert9, and Jacques Baal.

It is uncertain whether these threat actors are associated with Anonymous. Still, our investigations show that they have been mentioning Anonymous group’s FIFA-related hashtags, such as #Anonymous, #OpIran, #OpWorldCup, and #OpFIFA. These threat actors have also been allegedly executing DDoS attacks toward their targets.

On February 28, FIFA announced suspending Russia from all upcoming matches, expressing its support in Ukraine against the former’s invasion. Anonymous group’s demand of also expelling Iran aimed to send a message that while the Iranian leaders enjoy watching their team play at the World Cup, their country’s kamikaze drones and missiles are continuously killing Ukrainians in the other part of the world.
