Cyberattack Operation Disruption System Outage Maple Leaf Foods Manufacturing Canada North America

Last week, Maple Leaf Foods admitted they had experienced a cybersecurity attack that caused IT disruption and system outage, affecting their daily operations.

The affected entity is Canada’s most extensive poultry food and prepared meat producer. Maple Leaf Food operates more than 20 facilities across Canada and employs approximately 14,000 individuals. Moreover, the meat producer entity has contracts with more than 700 barns within the country.

Last year, Maple Leaf Food generated a staggering $3.3 billion in sales.

Researchers believed an attacker had executed its campaign against the affected entity during the weekends. The researchers introduced this idea as hackers often deploy their attacks during these days as they are betting to find few incident responders that could spot them in their initial intrusion.

Fortunately, the Canadian food-producing company stated that its IT defence team had immediately taken action to respond to the incident.

The company’s defence specialists plan to cooperate with cybersecurity and recovery experts to have a concrete resolution for the incident as soon as possible.

Maple Leaf Foods explained that they are restoring the affected systems.

Based on reports, Maple Leaf Foods will deploy its business continuity plans as its specialist are working to restore the compromised systems. Unfortunately, the company noted that the total recovery from the outage would take time and result in some service disruptions. The company will continue its operations manually to work with its partners and clients to lessen the food supply disruption in the markets of Canada.

A spokesperson stated that the outage created operational and service disruptions across their business units, sites, and plants. Furthermore, the representative explained that the company expects the disruption to continue as they are not finished restoring the impacted systems.

Maple Leaf Foods then added that they have no concrete idea about any possible issues related to the alleged attack that impacts any of its affiliates.

The affected company asked everyone to be patient as they are trying to resolve the current problem to ensure that there will be no lingering effect that will cause them trouble soon.
