Le Mans Virtual Esports Service Interruption Hacked Security Breach Virtual Race Betting Gaming

An alleged security intrusion from a hacker caused a massive interruption to the Le Mans Virtual esports event earlier this week.

The reigning champion, Max Verstappen, is participating in the global 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual esports competition, the most prestigious online game event in endurance racing. The champion of the interrupted tournament could earn a prize of about a quarter of a million dollars.

The disruption in the Le Mans Virtual esports event ended in disappointment.

The fiver-round championship in the Le Mans Virtual esports event badly ended because of an interruption on the champion’s servers. The alleged hack has thrown Verstappen out of the game, which was currently in the lead by over 60 seconds.

Unfortunately, the defending champion has been in 17th place in the race upon reconnecting to the event. In addition, Verstappen tried to regain the first-place position but only obtained that 14th spot, which is a couple of laps behind the leaders.

Max Verstappen has decided to quit the esports racing competition and expressed his dismay online to the Virtual event organisers. One of his posts stated that he would have more odds of winning if he went to a casino.

Multiple drivers also reported having experienced similar issues while in the Virtual race. The Le Mans Virtual organisers confirmed that an alleged security breach caused the disconnection early in the competition.

Some individuals speculated that the security breach was a product of game fixing since vast amounts of money were involved during the esports competition. This incident showed the level of competition in online games since most of them are linked to gambling and betting transactions.

Therefore, it is not far-fetched that esports events attracted cybercriminal activities such as distributed denial-of-service attacks against gaming servers. The true motive of the disruption is still a mystery, but the champion’s post might have alluded to outside betting and game-fixing.
