Threat actors that hacked Riot Games have started to auction the alleged stolen League of Legends source code and Packman anti-cheat software.

This drama from one of the best gaming publishers continues as threat actors have started their malicious plans after Riot Games revealed that they would not pay the ransom.

Recently, the gaming company confirmed that they accepted a ransom note from the hackers. The ransom note providers wanted $10 million in exchange for the stolen data and the prevention of public exposure.

According to a recent investigation, a security research group claimed that the attackers acquired access to Riot’s network after executing a social engineering campaign via SMS on one of the company’s staff.

Moreover, the actors said they were within the development network of the company for a day and a half until the Riot’s security team identified them. Their primary objective during the attack was to steal Riot Vanguard’s source code.

Last week, the threat actors responsible for the breach in Riot started selling the alleged League of Legends source code on a well-known hacking forum.

According to a statement from the threat actors, their potential buyers could offer them a million dollars for the League of Legends source code and Packman. These adversaries also said they are happy to give away Packman for $500,000.

The post on the hacking forum displayed a link to a thousand-page PDF document that allegedly includes a directory listing the 72.4GB of stolen source codes.

An independent research group claimed that the source code does not show any connections to Riot Games. However, the attackers responded to the false allegation by saying that they had further proof of the legitimacy of the source code since they had shared some of it with a popular League of Legends YouTube content creator.

Riot Games has yet to address the claims of the threat actors possessing the stolen source code. Researchers and analysts have yet to prove the legitimacy of the files offered by the attackers.
