Our security analysts from iZOOlogic have discovered a new Russian-based threat group called the DigitalCobraGang, which allegedly threatens to declare cyberwar against nations and organisations that will target Russia amid the ongoing war against Ukraine.

Furthermore, the new threat group has hinted that they will specifically target Western nations if they try to hit Russia with any cyberattacks, including distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) and malware attacks toward the critical infrastructure and satellite imageries of all opposing countries.

Aside from the rivaling nations, DigitalCobraGang also warns those who will attempt to attack the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) infrastructure. With their first signed collaboration back in 1967, Russia has long cooperated with CERN that solidified their internal relations through time, signifying how Russian-based threat groups would back up the country’s allies against those who will try to attack.

The DigitalCobraGang threat group is only one of many hacking groups that took the side of Russia during their invasion of Ukraine.

Russia’s ongoing violent invasion of Ukraine had not only been seen through the field but also escalated through digital warfare, with numerous threat groups taking sides between the two opposing countries.

Aside from the DigitalCobraGang, other notorious state-backed groups such as the Conti ransomware gang, SandWorm, and UNC1151 have reportedly proclaimed alliances for Russia and threatened to counterattack organisations that will strike against them.

On the other hand, other threat groups have chosen to side with Ukraine and protect the country from any cyber-attacks from the assaulting country, including the Anonymous group, AgainstTheWest (ATW), Belarusian Cyber Partisans, the IT Army of Ukraine, and more.

The Anonymous group has recently declared cyberwar against the Russian government to back up Ukraine upon being invaded. They have also reportedly taken down the website of a Russian state-controlled television network called RT to send a message that they are determined about their cyberwar declaration.

This news has triggered the new threat group DigitalCobraGang and has challenged Anonymous into massive cyber-attack retaliations.

More and more hacking groups have surfaced to pick sides among Russia and Ukraine, aiming to protect each side from the escalating crisis of the ongoing war between the two nations. Our experts from iZOOlogic will continue to provide updates about the latest happenings concerning this significant issue.
