According to a cybersecurity report, over a million Texas-based citizens might have been affected by a data breach on the largest dental care provider in Dallas. The researchers stated that the affected dental firm is ‘Jefferson Dental and Orthodontics.’
The dental firm has approximately 72 offices in Texas. The numerous offices of the affected company have resulted in a massive data breach that compromises about 1.1 million Texans.
The recent data breach has been the biggest reported to Texas Attorney General since the latest notification law in September. The newly approved Texas law requires firms to report data breaches impacting a minimum of 500 Texans or more to the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
In addition, the Texan state is then mandated to release and upload a master list of the data breaches online.
Jefferson Dental and Orthodontics claimed that no evidence proves misusage of the stolen information and has also notified all its clients regarding the issue.
The data breach included important information about the clients of the dental care provider.
According to the dental firm’s notice to its clients, the impacted information of the data breach is driver’s license numbers, health insurance details, social security numbers, and financial data, among the types of info exposed or taken by the hackers.
Nevertheless, the dental provider assured everyone that once its investigation was complete and finalized, it would begin notifying its patients with letters.
However, a cybersecurity expert said that the affected clients of the dental firm would likely receive phishing emails subjected from the provider. These clients of the dental care provider should look out for sketchy emails.
The researchers recommend that people be more proactive in monitoring their accounts and highly advise freezing their credit cards. The dental care provider explained that their customers are welcome to call them anytime if they have concerns regarding their information.
