A technology firm from Somerset, New Jersey, SHI International, had disclosed a recent cyberattack incident that affected their internal servers. The tech firm is one of North America’s largest IT solutions providers, boasting about $12.3B in total revenue for last year.
The tech firm also employs over 5,000 staff globally across its US, UK, and Netherlands branches and provides IT solutions services to more than 15,000 organisations worldwide.
From a statement, the IT solutions firm revealed that their networks had been hit with a professional malware attack that transpired last July 4.
Upon learning about the incident, SHI International’s security and IT teams quickly took action to mitigate the malware attack incident and minimise its impact on the firm’s systems and business operations.
The IT solutions firm also notified their clients by posting a message on their website warning about temporary system maintenance to control a sustained internal outage. The firm, however, modified this message to let clients and visitors know in a detailed statement that it was a malware attack that had taken place.
Customers of SHI also took their thoughts to Twitter, realising the firm’s system outage. From a thread, a customer said that SHI International’s web servers were redirecting to the Amazon CloudFront/S3 error page. As observed, this error could be due to the company currently assessing the security incident, thus enforcing a temporary shutdown on its public websites and email servers.
As of writing, SHI’s website is still down and displays the statement regarding the malware attack. However, on Wednesday, the company said to have brought their email servers back online and is already working to restore access to other systems affected.
SHI International also mentioned communicating with the FBI and CISA as the issue is still ongoing to ensure it is under control. Furthermore, the IT solutions firm verified that there is no evidence of sensitive customer data and third-party systems in its supply chain being compromised during the malware attack.
The firm’s customers are assured to be kept posted throughout the investigation.
