The Hive ransomware group has extorted a French clothing company called Damart after executing a cybercriminal campaign that affected the store’s data. Damart’s system has been encrypted by the group that disrupted its operations since August.
From a report, the attackers allegedly have no plans of negotiating and expect the company to pay the ransom immediately.
However, Hive has not posted the victim’s information on its extortion website, implying that there must be some negotiation. On the other hand, a spokesperson from Damart stated that their company has not engaged in any agreement with the Hive operators.
The clothing company have also contacted the national police regarding the incident, indicating that Hive ransomware will not receive any payment.
The Hive ransomware group’s impact on the clothing company may have caused the emergency maintenance on its homepage last month.
Researchers claimed that the first signs of the Hive ransomware group’s attack were when Damart executed emergency maintenance on the homepage of its online store last month.
The company then stated that they are prioritising its security and assured everyone that there had not been any evidence of data misuse from the actors. Later in August, users also reported that the clothing company’s sales network was not functioning normally, and the disruption affected nearly a hundred of its branches.
The disruption also resulted in a decrease in accepted orders and the unavailability of Damart’s customer support. Unfortunately, the clothing company clarified that the adversaries had reached their Active Directory and immediately launched a quick attack that led to the encryption of their systems.
It is still unclear if the ransomware operators have stolen any data during their breach. But the Hive group have already employed a double-extortion tactic and exfiltrates information before the encryption process.
The data encryption gave the threat actors leverage to pressure its victim to pay the ransom through data leaks.
As of now, Hive ransomware has not included Damart on its data leak website. The affected company has also denied that the hackers have stolen any data from their systems.
