AgainstTheWest Data Leak Chinese Government China Dark Web Threat Hunting Cybersecurity Hacker Forum

Researchers from iZOOlogic have recently discovered a threat group who introduced themselves from a popular dark web forum website where they claimed to be against China – as opposed to their name “AgainstTheWest.”

According to their About page on the forum website, entitled “Declaration of War on China,” they appeared to assert their opposition against the whole Chinese population and their reasons, including China’s execution of “re-education camps” operated by the government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region where individuals are forced to undergo a rehabilitation process that criticised by many because of how it is believed to be inhumane.

Aside from the re-education camps, AgainstTheWest also highlighted their reason for emerging in the threat landscape, such as China’s “anti-democracy attacks on Hong Kong” and their “aggression towards Taiwan.”

Initially, the threat group claimed hatred over the Chinese state and government; however, they said that the country had ignored the basis and reasoning behind their attacks and sent threats their way instead. For this reason, AgainstTheWest was triggered to lay out their plans of declaring war on China and now turn their heads on the entire Chinese population.

From their post, AgainstTheWest identified six Chinese government agencies that they threatened to leak data in the future.

These agencies include the Ministry of Commerce, Chinese State Council, Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission Intelligence Bureau, Government Administration Council of the Central People’s Government, United Front, and China Fire and Rescue Force.

They also believe that China might be under the impression that their group is just random people from the internet claiming to pose threats against them and that their country cannot be touched. AgainstTheWest concluded their post by saying that their actions speak louder than words, which might mean they are not speaking empty threats.

All replies on the threat group’s post include people expressing their support.

AgainstTheWest also showcased on their profile a YouTube video from 2019 entitled “And I think to myself, what a wonderful world” as the video played footage on Hong Kong Anti-Extradition Protests.

iZOOlogic researchers also found AgainstTheWest’s onion dark website. From here, our researchers will be on the lookout for updates and progresses regarding the threat group’s activities that could involve the leaking of China’s government agencies’ data, as per their claims.
