WonderHero Shut Down 300k Crypto Assets Hackers Binance Coin Cryptocurrency NFT

The developers of WonderHero, a cryptocurrency play-to-earn game, have temporarily disabled its service after an unknown group of hackers stole more than $300,000 worth of cryptocurrency from Binance Coin.

The hack affected the price of WonderHero’s coin and resulted in a decrease of value to about 90%. WonderHero is one of the many well-known play-to-earn games where players earn revenue in non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and cryptocurrencies and has currently 10,000 active users globally.

A cybersecurity firm notified the company that a malicious threat actor was abusing some flaws in the platform. WonderHero immediately disabled its game and website before announcing the incident to users.

The gaming company then published a blog post admitting that a group of hackers had stolen 750 Binance Coins after stealing 80 million WND in the game. Subsequently, the adversaries sent the 750 BNB PancakeSwap (cryptocurrency mixer).

The company explained that the hackers were on their blockchain bridge or “cross-chain bridging withdrawal.” A blockchain bridge enables anyone to move tokens, intelligent contract instructions, access, and data between it.

Experts said that WonderHero became a ripe target for malicious threat actors since it gained popularity among users.

The crypto firm stated that they would initiate repairs after the breach on their cross-chain bridge before auditing the system and developing a new contract for their currency. They also added that they plan to airdrop new tokens to users based on the last snapshot of their account before the attack occurred.

Furthermore, WonderHero plans to compensate all liquidity providers but said they would disclose the timeline for recovery of services later and is planning to design a bug bounty system to identify other flaws in their system.

The users of the crypto platform are discouraged from making trades and transactions while the new contract is not provided. However, users on Twitter are disappointed and criticised the company, questioning whether they will compensate for the losses of those whose orders came when the price of WND diluted.

WonderHero did not provide any comments regarding the concerns of the users as of writing.
