Bristol Community College Massachusetts US Ransomware Attack Network Disruption

The campus of Bristol Community College in Attleboro, Massachusetts announced last week that its computer network had been impacted by a cybercriminal attack that involved ransomware encryption.

Based on reports, the college identified a network interruption incident that affected its onsite internet and network functions, such as email, shared document sites, and information systems, for students and employees.

The Bristol Community College claimed that the attackers had not stolen critical data from them.

The Bristol Community College and its security team have yet to find forensic evidence that the incident led to unauthorised access or theft of personal information.

Moreover, the academic institution quickly deployed an investigation after consulting with a cybersecurity expert who regularly studies the same incidents in their country.

The investigation will determine the scope and impact of compromise on the school’s information and network.

Once the investigation identifies the affected individuals, they will immediately distribute direct messages that contain guidance and instructions in addressing the attack. The school’s officials have been addressing the issue with the aid of IT specialists.

However, the college email published a post stating that their AccessBCC and other online services are temporarily inaccessible to mitigate the attack’s spread.

On the other hand, college services, such as student accounts, financial aid, and enrollment centre, are available via phone call or walk-in. Unfortunately, these services might be limited since access to the college’s information systems is also constrained.

Concerned individuals should wait for further announcements as the college will provide more updates regarding the attack soon.

Students and staff of the impacted college institution are advised to change all passwords, including credit cards, bank accounts, and other banking firms. Lastly, potentially affected individuals should review their statements, be wary of suspicious activities, monitor credit card reports, and report unwanted transactions or charges to their banks.
