An old data breach incident that impacted Roblox has reemerged, exposing sensitive information owned by thousands of users.
A concerned individual published on Twitter about the potential leak that impacted the participants of the 2017-2020 Roblox Developers Conferences. The individual stated that he had the data and that people had contacted him about it.
Based on reports, the data leak is in a CSV format and includes about 4000 unique email addresses. The confirmed information in the leaked database also includes names, usernames, dates of birth, phone numbers, physical addresses, and IP addresses.
The initial data leak incident against Roblox gained less traction than the newer incident.
According to an investigation, the source that revealed the Roblox leak claimed that it initially occurred in 2021. This initial data leak did not significantly impact the game’s cheating community, and the Roblox developers did not publicly disclose the incident or alert the affected individuals.
However, a new incident republished the leak on a known hacking forum, where it gained a lot more attention compared to the first try. Reports revealed that high-profile Roblox players have started receiving malicious or unsolicited texts, emails, and calls due to the data leak.
Futhermore, the Roblox corporation confirmed the newly emerged leak earlier this month and alerted relevant individuals. In addition, the gaming company confirmed that the unauthorised access could impact select Roblox user emails from 2017 to 2020, which attended the Roblox Developer Conference.
The company disclosed that the data leak incident could impact the users’ details, such as full names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, dates of birth, and IPs.
A representative from Roblox added that they would provide affected individuals with a one-year subscription to an identity theft protection tool due to the severity of the issue.
The company also explained to everyone that the security of their personal information is their priority. They have already established a mitigation tactic to address the incident and avoid similar attacks from occurring in the future.
The reemerged data leak has concerned many gamers, but Roblox assured them they will fix it soon.
