Australia Wine Online Shop Vinomofo Data Breach Incident Response Ecommerce Compromised Data

Australia’s Vinomofo becomes the next company to be targeted by a cyberattack that compromised numerous customers’ information, including full names, birthdates, genders, addresses, and contact numbers. Vinomofo is an e-commerce shop that sells wine to its 500,000 customers in Australia.

The online wine shop has not disclosed the number of people affected by the data breach incident because of its privacy and scam protection rights. Customers were notified about the incident through email, with some expressing their disappointment by closing their accounts.

Since the Optus data breach in September, several Australian firms have been targeted by hackers, including Vinomofo.

Several reports about cyberattacks on companies have transpired in Australia after the Optus telco breach ensued last September. These companies include Woolworths’ MyDeal website, Telstra, and Medibank Private. About ten million data was stolen from the telco company, which could be associated with the subsequent attacks on other Australian firms connected with Optus.

The online wine shop detected unusual activity on its server on September 27. Its security team promptly contacted authorities and other relevant teams to aid with the situation and waited to notify customers until an investigation was established.

Based on investigations, Vinomofo’s servers were accessed by unauthorised entities, which compromised some customer databases. However, the firm clarified to their customers that the exposure of their data to the hackers was ‘low’ and that their financial data were not included in the breach.

Aside from the online wine shop’s written statement, it had not released further comments about the incident, including the scope of damage the security breach caused. According to their representative, the firm intends to protect its partners’ and customers’ privacy and reduce the risk of scammers targeting them more.

Further investigation is ongoing to identify if the compromised data has been published online or used for other malicious purposes. Nonetheless, all Vinomofo customers are advised to be vigilant against fraud attempts from threat actors leveraging their data for attacks.
