Air Canada Airline Data Breach Fraud Prevention Hackers Cybersecurity

Air Canada, one of the country’s most prominent airlines and carriers, revealed that a cybersecurity breach has resulted in unauthorised access to its internal systems. The breach allegedly occurred this week when the hackers temporarily entered specific areas of the airline’s infrastructure.

According to the airline’s official statement released earlier this week, the incident resulted in the theft of a limited amount of personal information owned by a subset of Air Canada employees and specific records.

The airline company did not reveal specific details of the incident, such as the nature of the compromised records. However, they assured their customers that the attack did not impact any customer data, and its flight operations systems and customer-facing platforms remained unaffected.

Air Canada immediately deployed notification letters to the affected individuals.

Based on reports, Air Canada has quickly addressed the situation by notifying potentially impacted individuals of the hack. The airline said the affected people are their employees since the data breach compromised their personal information.

Additionally, this airline company contacted relevant law enforcement agencies and will start cooperating with them to address the situation. They have also confirmed that their operations are fully functional, implying that they are now operating without disruption.

This incident prompted Air Canada to fortify its security measures and allegedly employed the assistance of a third-party cybersecurity solution. The primary objective of these actions is to prevent similar breaches in the future.

Unfortunately, the airline’s announcement did not give details about the cause of the breach, and it concluded its statement by indicating that there would be no further public comments on the matter at this time.

This data breach attack is not the first attack that Air Canada suffered. In 2018, the company admitted to an incident in which unauthorised threat groups accessed the profile information of 20,000 users of its mobile app. Air Canada had to temporarily lock out all 1.7 million mobile app accounts in response to that breach and as a precautionary measure.
